Sauder's Museum Quilt Show & Happy Belated Mother's Day
The pictures above do not do justice to the beautiful hand quilted quilt nor the sweetest lady that I ever met at a quilt show. Her name is Velma Camp. She won the "Best of Show" and "People's Choice" award! Congratulations Velma!
This is my sister, Jenny, in front of her "One Block Wonder" quilt. Notice the third place pink ribbon in the picture below. I have many fond memories of helping teach Jenny how to sew. She is nine years younger than I am. Congratulations Sis on a beautiful quilt.
This is my first Judge's Choice award! Mom had talked me into entering a few quilts and to my surprise all of them came home with a ribbon. It's fun to win a ribbon, but I quilt for charity, friends, and family. I love quilting because I have made so many friends through quilting. You can see more winning quilts at: http://www.saudervillage.com/Creativity/quiltshow_winners.asp
The quilts that are not listed are winners to!
"If someone has love in their heart and wants to make a quilt for someone special--it's always a perfect quilt!"
My Mom and I had the opportunity to go to the quilt winner's banquet and I won a fabric bundle for next year's quilt challenge. The challenge is called "Veiled in Mystery". I bought some more fabric to go along with the challenge. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. It will be a mystery until next year's quilt show :)
Happy Mother's Day Mom!
Thank you for everything you've done for us!
Happy Quilting!

A New Quilt Display, New Books, and NQA Columbus Quilt Show
I have had these old cabinet doors for 29 years and never done anything with them. They were painted and looked pretty ugly when I first seen them. The doors sure look different when they're stripped and refinished!
I added some hinges and now I have a new place to hang quilts!
I bought some new books at the NQA Quilt show last week in Columbus, Ohio. Since I've been thread doodling, zentangles have caught my eye. Is my thread doodling zentangles? I don't know, but these books look like a lot of fun!
I also met the most interesting gentleman, Dustin Farrell, at the quilt show. Dusty is a long arm quilting artist and his feathers are absolutely amazing! His front cover of his book caught my eye and I just had to buy my very own copy! Dusty's feathers captured my heart because they are so close to what I draw. Thank you, Dustin, for signing my book and for such an inspiring feather book!
Below is an amazing quilt called "The Loading Dock" by Mary S. Buvia, from Greenwood, Indiana.
Mary did a beautiful job on this quilt--it is certainly "eye candy" for everyone!
Em, Mom, and I had a great time in Columbus!
I am looking forward to going again next year.

Pansy Wall Hanging and More
A few weeks ago my mom and I had the pleasure of taking a class from Patsy Thompson.
Her quilts are really neat to see on her blog, but the pictures on internet are no way near the pleasure of seeing them up close in person. I learned many new techniques like thread painting. Thread painting is something completely new to me, but it's a lot of fun. I see more thread painting in my future.
I wasn't quite sure how I was going to quilt this wall hanging and decided to try to quilt feathers around my pansy flower. Below is a practice feather using Highlights 40 weight polyester thread from Superior Threads.
I also tried a different background filler that goes with feathers, but fades into the background with the white thread I used. Patsy does a similar background design in her pansy quilt.
I added the feathers one curve at a time until I was happy with what I was looking at.
I did echo quilt around all the feathers to highlight them a little more. Thank you Patsy for a wonderful class I had a great time and learned a lot. I hope to have the pleasure of taking another class from you in the future. Please check out Patsy's Home Page, there are many things there for you to explore!
Last Sunday afternoon I enjoyed a trip to Sauder's Museum. Below is a picture of my sister, Jenny, with a quilt that I helped her with many years ago.
Here is my Mom and her quilt, Diamonds Jubilee. It was a fun day with family and friends. Check out my sister's blog for two other quilts that were in the show.
Happy Mother's Day Mom!
I owe you "sew" much!

Cincinnati International Quilt Festival (Part 2)
I had another opportunity to meet a fascinating quilter, Deborah Kemball. She loves floral applique. We had a brief, but very enjoyable conversation on the construction of her quilt. I can't imagine how many hours went into this beauty; it is truly a work of art!
Deborah also called to my attention another quilt that she had displayed at the show.
The beautiful colors of this quilt caught my eye right away.
Be sure to check out Deborah's web site--she is also an author of Beautiful Botanicals if you are interested in creating these beautiful flowers yourself.
Thank you so much Deborah letting me share your quilt with us.
Happy Quilting!

Cincinnati International Quilt Festival & Friday Night Sew In Results
I spent last weekend at the International Quilt Festival in Cincinnati. It was a wonderful show! I met a wonderful quilt artist, Hiroko Miyama. The quilt above is a picture of her granddaughter. Her quilt is absolutely amazing!
Here is another quilt that Hiroko displayed at the quilt show. I love her little friend at the bottom of the quilt. Be sure to click on the pictures to see the details of her quilt. Thank you so much for sharing your quilt with us and letting me share with my blogging friends your wonderful artistic quilts.
My sister is going to be really happy! If you have been following my blog, the quilt below was sandwiched together on a February Friday Night Sew In.
After a lot of doodling on my sketch pad and talking with my sis, I finally started quilting.
Em will be delighted that I quilted Buddy's name on her quilt.
I quilted around each of the rectangular areas. There will be more quilting to do, but I ran out of time. If you click for a close-up, you will see that I quilted the words: bark, wolf, and howl on the sides. It sure is fun to take an evening and escape into my sewing room to do something fun!
If you love decorated eggs, please stop by Diane Gaudynski's Blog. A while back Diane had posted a picture of a beautiful decorated egg and I emailed her some pictures of my cousin's eggs. Carolyn and Diane have been in contact and Carolyn has generously let Diane post her beautiful eggs. Diane is a free motion quilt teacher and author. I love her free motion feathers!

Wood County Fair Quilt Show and Wedding Cakes
I was very happy to have the opportunity to go to the Wood County Fair Quilt Show. Although I was disappointed about missing my sister, Jenny, (http://quiltcrazygaljennalouise.blogspot.com/) speak at the quilt show and Kelly of I Have A Notion (http://ihaveanotion.blogspot.com/2010/08/quilt-day-at-wood-county-fair-update.html); I seen a lot of wonderful quilts and visited with many quilters.
The pictures below are the St. V's quilts that 4H kids and their adult mentors had started after Christmas. I was honored to be one of the helpers for the day. What a special gift to welcome a premature baby into this world!
If you're interested in learning more about St. V's quilts, please visit Jenny's blog that is posted above. Just in case you're wondering why there are no names on the quilts--I retouched the photos so the kids and their mentors can have some privacy.
Now for the reason I missed Jenny and Kelly at the quilt show: wedding cakes. I had two wedding cakes to get done. Both cakes have clear pillars and will be stacked at set-up.
There is also another smaller basket weave cake that is not pictured. I also did a full sheet cake that had the basket weave pattern. I sure had a busy week keeping up with all the orders at work. Hope you're all having a fun summer.
Happy Quilting!

Chicago International Quilt Show
I enjoyed two wonderful days with my sister, mom, and aunt at the International Quilt Show. I took lots of digital pictures, which I love looking at later and sharing with friends that couldn't come. My sister and I even enjoyed a class together at the "Make It University". We made a domino necklace together. Thank you Jenny for talking me into doing something fun!
There were so many amazing quilts that I've seen, but one that stuck out in my mind is the beautiful quilt with a bridge. The quilt is named "Crossover". This beauty was made by Cookie Warner.
Doesn't this quilt make you feel that like you're there! I picked this picture to share because it reminds me of our quiet little farm where my husband and I have raised our family and have made many wonderful memories. Many thanks to the quilters, vendors, and organizers for putting on a great show inspiring us to give more of ourselves. I found many new inspirations and new products to try. Here is a sampling of purchases that I've made. I've been mostly a traditional quilter for the last 28 years and now I want to try out some new things. A special thanks to all the vendors that loves quilting as much as I do and freely sharing information on new products that make us quilters more creative.
We also found that all good things change. Next year the quilt show will be at Cincinnati, Ohio. So goodbye Chicago--we love you!!! Cincinnati--we will be looking forward to next year.
Happy Quilting
Kay Lynne
